WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Here comes Santa Claus...right down to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Children’s Hospital.
Dozens of kids in the pediatric unit got a special visit from the big man in the red suit Friday.
“We’re just going to come in and say ‘Hello,’" Claus said. “Wish them a Merry Christmas. Ask them what they want for Christmas.”
The visit helped bring holiday cheer to hospitalized children and their families. Santa said he wanted to make sure every child at the hospital felt special this holiday season.
“It’s always important to let everybody know that even though they’re not at home, we still remember them and we’re still going to visit with them," Claus said.
When asked how long he has been visiting children in the hospital around Christmas time, Santa said, “since the day I was born.”
“It’s absolutely heartwarming. Every year, it always brings back memories as well," Claus said.
One of the children Santa visited Friday was Jabari. WECT’s Chelsea Donovan reported on the 5-year-old earlier this year when the Welcome Home Angel Foundation gave him a home renovation to fit his needs.
Jabari’s grandmother said they were recently informed that Jabari should be out of the hospital and back home in time for Christmas.
